75 Page PDF File - William George Andrews Wain, the author’s 2nd great grandfather, son of George Blundell Wain (1813-1855) and Sarah Andrews (1818-1877), was born in London and raised in Hampshire. He became a mariner, and in the course of his travels, visited Australia in 1863. A couple of short years later, he married my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Anne Ramsay in Brisbane. Mary was a second generation Australian, daughter of James Ramsay (1821-1889) and Bridget Lee (1820-1891), Irish immigrants, was born in Brisbane in 1845. The couple made their life in Brisbane, raising a family of seven children, six of whom lived to adulthood. William worked for the Brisbane Marine Department for 43 years, rising to become Storekeeper at the Port Office, the position he held at the time of his death. He was a well respected public servant judging by the fact the Portmaster ordered the Port Office flag flown at half mast to mark his passing.
